When Inspiration Strikes

According to my Creative Writing professor, Dr. Luz, back in graduate school, “When inspiration strikes, write.” Well, I’m not sure if that’s exactly what she said as in verbatim but that’s how I understood it and remember it.  So, please allow me to quote it that way, OK?

Inspiration to write comes to me around 8-ish to 9-ish.  I don’t know why.  I’m not sure if it has something to do with breakfast or coming to work with an empty stomach.  But my mind is always flooded with these brilliant ideas. LOL. I take that back. Not so brilliant actually just for the sake of wordplay, I would opt with that.

Well, last week, I started a new theme called Inspiration (#).  It’s to search for an inspiring image online to help brighten my day.  Diverting my mind into something beautiful helps me look at life (especially the circumstances I am in) with a different perspective.  It’s actually good, you know.  As the Bible says in Philippians 4:8 (one of my favorite verses),

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

We are to think of beautiful and positive things alone.  No doubts, anger, stress, hatred, jealousy should occupy our cerebrum.

There’s no point thinking about all those things because they’d just destroy our day.  Seriously.  It does not help us in anyway.  Besides, we only have one shot with these brain cells.  I mean, when they die, they’re gone forever.  What kind of person would I be if I indulge on those negative things and cause my brain cells to die? Terrible, right? So, I’ve made up my mind, only positive things please.  Ha! This logic actually reminds me of the quote, “You are what you eat.”

Rusty Violin Skills

After ages, I finally picked up my violin and started playing it. Oh boy, how terrible it sounded! The first 20 minutes was just excruciatingly painful to the ears! However, few minutes more after that my hands were able to adjust and relearn things somehow. For an hour and a half, I actually enjoyed playing hymns with my friend Vish until I felt my jaw hurting. Oh-oh, bad idea, right? You think I stopped at the onset of pain? Of course, NOT! I kept playing and playing until the pain became so severe that finally…I stopped. My friend continued while I started relaxing. Good for me, yeah? 🙂 Anyway, I am so happy that God sent Vish to bug me to play music / practice instruments with her. Now, I am thinking about spending the summer holidays here to learn how to play another instrument or perhaps to swim.:) I need to be more productive learning stuff than spending money traveling. Haha, did I just say that? Erase, erase, erase. I am just saying that because I am going to Indonesia in July anyway. These itchy feet will still definitely go somewhere this summer–first 2 weeks of June. Anyone up on a trip with me? 🙂 God bless!

I know there’s no excuse for missing this Sunday Social post or not doing the Daily Prompts for this month but I’ve been on the process of learning new hobbies, meeting new people, and exploring new apps on my phone, so please forgive me for this very late post. 🙂

3. What song reminds you of your childhood? Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love for You

It was very popular when I was a little girl.  I remember occasions when my friends and I would be singing this on social nights.  Fun!^_^

4. What songs put you in a good mood? Classical music and I have been listening to this playlist on Youtube called Classical Praise-Cello and Piano. I listen to these songs almost every single night before going to bed and it will keep playing till I wake up the next day.

5. What is your music to rock out to in your car? I don’t drive.  Work, church, grocery store are all three to five minutes walk from my pad.  If I had, that would be Pachelbel’s Canon in D in different versions. 🙂

6. What is the most embarrassing album or song you own? Do children’s songs count? Haha!

Gift of Music

Praise God for this gift of music!

For these past couple of months, the ensemble at church wasn’t able to sit down and practice because of conflicts in schedule.  Some of us are church officers who have to attend church board meetings.  Some are in the church choir or in the angklung group.  We just don’t have time to practice.  However,  something good happened.  The church service ended early so I took it upon myself to announce that the  ensemble will have a practice.  We practiced some songs like:

All in four parts.  I played the bass part of course but there were times that I had to play the soprano part when playing unison with the rest.  It was really fun! I had a great time.  Every fourth Sabbath we’ll be rendering the special music at church during the Sabbath School and the Divine Worship so that is a pretty big deal.  Our God deserves nothing but the best.  A friend once told me that God is not a mediocre God.  He deserves our best.  She’s totally right! In speaking, one can correct what he/she said.  In writing, one can edit his/her work.  But in singing and playing instruments, once you sang or for me, pressed the wrong note that’s it.  Perfection is the goal here and it’s only achieved with lots of correct practice, patience, and prayer! It also takes a lot of dedication and time.  That’s why today I rearranged again my furniture to give myself extra space for practice.  I wish I could just sit on my bed and play music like my flutist friend.  Unfortunately for me, I have to sit on a proper chair with the stopper inserted under the chair.  I also need quite a space for bowing and everything. Well, beginning tonight most of my waking time will be spent in playing cello, reading books, and writing blogs.  How does that sound? It’s all for the glory of God.  I will try to do my household chores more diligently this time esp.the laundry.  I don’t enjoy folding clothes so I might as well just wash everyday or every two days so I won’t have to worry about folding tons of clothes.  What do you think?

Daily Prompt: Musical

playing with friendsIf prayer is the breath of my soul then music is the language of my soul.  I cannot imagine my life without music.  I play violin and cello.  But if I am not playing, I am either singing or listening to it.  I cannot go on a day without music.

Whenever I’m scared, I sing or hum a hymn called, “Jesus is All The World to Me”.  Whenever I am sad and lonely, I play, “Near the Cross”.  Whenever I am happy, I sing, “Joyful, joyful We Adore Thee.  “Whenever I’m in love, I play or listen to, “Londonderry Air, Canon in D, Kiss the Rain, and Moon River”.  For consecration, I like “Holy, Holy, I Offer My Life, and I Surrender All”.

See, music plays a special role in my life.  How about you?

Christmas Annual Program

November 30

It was our Christmas Annual Program at school so basically I only had a class out of four classes scheduled for that day. It was cool ^^

I got the chance to play cello with the our school orchestra. I thought our performance was awesome.:) This is one down for me and more to go.

I still have the following appointments coming up before I leave for Vietnam. Yep, that’s right! I am going to Vietnam for the holidays, 15 full days! Can’t wait! Yey!

Oh the appointments:
1. Dec 8 – Church superintendent Consecration feature
– Angklung & Choir @ Central World
– Juniors’ Fund Raising (our turn) – Jing performing
2. Dec 9 – Nessie’s wedding coordinator
– My English and journalism students performing

Anyway, this is not the kind of Monday I hoped for. But what do we do? Life is what we make it.
